The outfield position is played by the people you see on the three defensive positions that are farthest away from the batter. These people are called the left fielder, the right fielder, and the center fielder. Their job is to make sure the ball is returned to the infield, and they do this by catching fly balls. Because of the uniqueness of their jobs , people in the outfield use one of the customized baseball gloves available on today’s market .
Outfield baseball gloves are the largest of all the gloves in baseball. Usually they are identified by a deep pocket to catch balls and an open web design that provides the ability to see through the glove in bright sun or under stadium lights , the glove ranges between 12 inches to 13 inches. Getting the size right is very critical because it could mean the difference between catching that fly ball and missing it completely. For serious baseball players, comfort is very important.
There are many brands that manufacture outfield baseball gloves, like Rawlings, Mizuno, Wilson, Nokona, or Easton. Each of these highly acclaimed companies creates their own design and uses different types of leather for the gloves used in the outfield. Everybody agrees using leather based gloves over synthetic materials because leather breathes and is strong and of course flexible . Manufacturers employ different kinds of leather to create the glove and this has at times caused a debate about which type of leather is better . One thing to consider is while they use exotic or internationally sourced materials, it is still a form of cow hide and this is what quality gloves have used since the beginning of time . Some variations and examples of newer types include Kangaroo, Deguchi, Buffalo, and Italian leather. These imported materials are usually softer and allow the player to break it in faster, but good old cow hide will serve the same purpose and is lighter on the pocket .
Another thing to consider when purchasing that piece of baseball equipment is the webbing. Ideally, you would need to be able to follow the ball after it is hit . Open webbing allows for viewing while running after these fly balls and allows for better visibility. There are also closed versions, where the webbing is replaced completely with leather, but these types are not suited for this position. While you will be unable to see where the ball is going, it does help by blocking the sun from your eyes.
In baseball , it is very important to have the right kind of gloves for a person to excel in the sport. Investing in the glove can give you an edge over other people, but ultimately does not make you a great player. That still comes from experience and practice. The basic requirement that you need to consider when getting outfielder gloves is comfort. Make sure that your fingers are not pinched and it is not too loose. Check to see if you can flex your hands enough to catch and actually hang on to that flyball long enough for you to toss it back to the infield. After all, thatís what players in the outfield are supposed to do.
